Springfield sits where I-95, I-395 and I-495 meet, making it one of the easiest places in the region to get anywhere. It has Metro, commuter rail and a large shopping center.

History

How Springfield came to be

  1. 1847

    A community grew around Daingerfield Station on the new Orange and Alexandria Railroad.

  2. 1910

    The name Springfield — after Henry Daingerfield's Springfield Farm — was officially restored.

  3. 1973–1975

    Springfield Mall opened and became a regional shopping destination.

  4. 1999–2007

    The $676 million rebuild of the Springfield Interchange (“Mixing Bowl”).

  5. 2014

    The mall reopened as Springfield Town Center.
