History

How Vienna came to be

  1. 1767

    First recorded house; the settlement was called Ayr Hill.

  2. 1850s

    Renamed Vienna.

  3. 1861

    The Battle of Vienna — one of the earliest clashes of the Civil War.

  4. 1890

    Incorporated as a town.

  5. 1986

    Vienna/Fairfax–GMU Metro station opened just outside town.
