Overview
Woodbridge sits between the Occoquan and Potomac rivers in eastern Prince William County, about 20 miles south of Washington. Most people use the name for the wider area, including the planned communities of Lake Ridge and Dale City.
History
Prince William County was formed; a wooden toll bridge over the Occoquan later gave Woodbridge its name.
Hurricane Agnes destroyed the Occoquan River bridge; Potomac Hospital (now Sentara) opened the same year.
Potomac Mills opened.
Virginia Railway Express began commuter trains through Woodbridge.
A former Army radio station became the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge.
The 95 Express Lanes were extended south from Woodbridge into Stafford County.
